EV Charger Installation

Stop planning your day around a public charging stall. A properly installed Level 2 charger fills your EV overnight in your own garage or driveway, on your schedule. We size it to your panel and run it right the first time.

EV Charger Installation by Best Diehl Electric

Home charging is the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade for any EV owner: you wake up to a full battery instead of hunting for an open public stall. But a Level 2 charger draws serious current, and a safe install is more than bolting a unit to the wall. It starts with a load calculation to confirm your panel can carry the new circuit, then a correctly sized 240-volt dedicated circuit run cleanly to where you park.

Best Diehl Electric installs home charging for every EV: Tesla, and any vehicle using the J1772 or NACS standard, with either a hardwired charger or a NEMA 14-50 outlet, indoors or out. If your existing panel cannot support the load, we will tell you honestly and can handle the panel upgrade as part of the project so you are not coordinating two contractors.

Signs it's time to call

When to bring in an electrician

  • You are tired of relying on public charging
  • A new EV is on the way and you want home charging ready
  • You only have a slow 120V outlet in the garage now
  • You want charging on the driveway or detached garage
  • You are not sure your panel can handle a charger
  • You want it permitted to qualify for rebates
How it works

Our process, start to finish

  1. Assess & load calcWe look at your panel, your parking, and your charger, and run the load calculation to confirm capacity and the best route.
  2. PermitWe pull the electrical permit, which most jurisdictions require and which keeps you eligible for rebate programs.
  3. InstallWe run the dedicated 240V circuit, mount and connect the charger or outlet, and test it with your vehicle.
  4. Inspect & hand offWe meet the inspector, pass the final, and make sure you are charging before we leave.

EV Charger Installation across the Sacramento & San Joaquin area

EV adoption is climbing fast across Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley, and newer Elk Grove, Natomas, and Lodi homes often have the panel capacity to add charging easily. Older homes may need a panel upgrade first, which we can roll into the same job. California and local utilities periodically offer EV charging rebates and special charging rates: a permitted install keeps you eligible, and we recommend confirming current program details when you are ready.

Common questions

EV Charger Installation: FAQ

Do I need a panel upgrade to install an EV charger?
Not always: it depends on your panel's size and existing load. We run a load calculation first to find out. If your service cannot support a charger, we will tell you honestly and can handle the upgrade as part of the project.
Should I get a hardwired charger or a 14-50 outlet?
Both are good options. Hardwiring supports higher continuous current and is cleaner for a permanent install; a NEMA 14-50 outlet offers flexibility if you may move the charger or change vehicles. We will recommend based on your charger and goals.
Can you install a charger for my Tesla?
Yes. We install the Tesla Wall Connector and, for any EV, J1772 and NACS-compatible chargers or a 14-50 outlet you can plug a mobile connector into.
Are there rebates for installing a home charger?
California and local utilities have offered EV charger and charging-rate incentives, and a permitted, code-compliant install keeps you eligible. Programs change, so we recommend checking the current offers for your utility when you are ready, and we will provide the documentation an application needs.
